SCHADS Award compliance

Know a roster breaches SCHADS before it's published — not after payroll's already run.

Imploy's roster scheduler flags overworked shifts, missed breaks and rest periods that don't meet SCHADS minimums as you build the roster — and calculates broken shift allowances correctly the moment a timesheet is published.

The cost of getting it wrong

SCHADS is one of the most complex awards in Australia — on purpose, it doesn't forgive shortcuts.

Four streams, dozens of classification levels, and penalty rates that stack in ways that are easy to misapply. A 2025 Fair Work Commission review found the classification system itself was complex enough to be driving misclassification across the sector.

4.75%

Minimum award wage increase applying from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026 — flowing through to penalty rates and overtime, not just base pay.

2 hrs

Minimum engagement per portion of a broken shift for home care workers (3 hrs for SACS). Roster someone for 90 minutes and you still owe the minimum.

1 shift

Since June 2026, a sleepover with work either side counts as one continuous shift — the sleepover period can no longer be treated as a rest break.

See the risk before you publish the roster

The roster scheduler flags overworked shifts, missed breaks and rest periods that fall short of SCHADS minimums as you're building the roster — not after it's gone out.

Three steps, not three systems

1

Build the roster

Create shifts as normal — Imploy reads duties, timing and gaps in real time as you go.

2

Get alerted

Overwork, missed breaks or rest periods under the SCHADS minimum are flagged before the roster is published.

3

Timesheet published

Broken shift allowances are calculated automatically at this point, at the correct rate.

How Imploy handles it

Built to flag risk at the roster stage, not reconstruct it later.

Compliance alerts run at the point a shift is created. Broken shift allowances are calculated the moment a timesheet is published.

Missed break alerts

Shows instantly if a rostered shift doesn't include a required break, before it's published.

Overwork alerts

Flags automatically when a rostered shift pushes a worker over their maximum daily or weekly hours.

Minimum rest between shifts

Flags shifts that don't leave the minimum break SCHADS requires between two rostered shifts for the same worker.

Broken shift counting

Tracks and counts broken shifts across the roster, so they don't need to be found manually.

Broken shift allowance at timesheet publish

First and second unpaid break allowances are calculated automatically the moment a timesheet is published.

Sleepover & broken shift toggle

Mark a shift as a sleepover or broken shift with a simple toggle, so it's recorded correctly from the start.

"We used to fix SCHADS errors after payroll ran. Now, Imploy flags them while we build the roster. Essential for any NDIS provider."

Frequently asked questions

Does Imploy calculate penalty rates and overtime automatically?

Not yet. Imploy currently calculates base pay rate, with broken shift allowances calculated automatically when a timesheet is published. Sleepover and broken shift status is set with a simple toggle. Ask us in a demo what's next on the roadmap.

How does Imploy help me avoid a SCHADS breach before it happens?

The roster scheduler flags a shift as you're building it if a worker is being overworked, hasn't been given a required break, is exceeding their maximum daily or weekly hours, or doesn't have the minimum rest period SCHADS requires between shifts — so you see the risk before the roster is published, not after.

What happens with sleepovers and broken shifts specifically?

You mark a shift as a sleepover or broken shift with a toggle. Broken shifts are counted automatically across the roster, and the correct first and second break allowance is calculated the moment the timesheet is published.

How long does it take to move from our current system?

Timeframes depend on workforce size and existing data quality. In the demo, we'll map your current setup — payroll platform, award classifications, roster complexity — and give you a realistic implementation timeline before you commit to anything.

Is this only for large providers?

No. The compliance risk scales with roster complexity, not headcount — a small provider running split shifts and sleepovers carries the same exposure per shift as a large one. Imploy is built to work for growing providers as well as enterprise-scale operations.
